FAQs - General Gala Info:

What galas/meets should I enter: Club Galas are for all Bingley swimmers. Rising Stars Galas are for less experienced swimmers aged 14 years and under and are an excellent place to start competing and build confidence and experience. A&W Galas are great for all but the most inexperienced Bingley swimmers.
Once a swimmer has built up confidence and experience at these Galas it will then be time to start looking at Short Course Open Meets such as the Jorvik Viking Sprints, Spenborough Bonfire Bash, Doncaster Dartes September Sprints and the Doncaster Dartes Swim-Along-A-Santa Meet. Long Course Open Meets are generally best not attempted until you've competed in the same events at a meet in a 25m pool, then the Doncaster Dartes Summer Splash Meet would be a good place to start. Unlike galas, these meets are all licensed which means the times, if fast enough, can be used to enter the Yorkshires and NERs.

Pool sizes: All galas/meets are Short Course (SC) ie in a 25 metre pool unless listed as Long Course (LC) ie in a 50 metre pool.

*Gala closing dates: Where there is a closing date listed you must get your entries in by this date. However, entries open for some meets several months before the actual meet; to be sure of getting all the events you want it is best to get your entries in before the date given in - "Entries to be in by xxxx" - for the main club entries submission, final entries will be submitted at a later date if the meet is not full.

Swim England (SE aka ASA) Membership Number: To compete in Open Meets you will need your unique Swim England Membership Number which can be found on the SwimmingResults.org website (Swim England Membership Check).

Swim England Membership Categories: To compete in Open Meets or the Yorkshires swimmers must have 'SE Club Compete' (previously 'Category 2') membership. All other galas only require 'SE Club Train' (previously 'Category 1') membership. Swimmers can upgrade from 'SE Club Train' to 'SE Club Compete' if required.

British / Swim England Rankings Times (Electronic PBs): Your 'Individual Best Times (All Time)' and 'Individual Best Times (Last 12 Months)' can be viewed on the SwimmingResults.org website (Individual Best Times).

Time Splits: These are the times after every 50m/length. When a meet is hosted using OpenMeets Time Splits openmeets.co.uk you can click the stopwatch symbol to the right of your time to get your splits. For all other meets you can get your splits by following the link for 'Individual Best Times' on SwimmingResults.org (see links above) and then clicking on the actual time.

Converting Times: Times can be converted between Long Course and Short Course (and vice versa) on the SportSys website.

Licensed Meet Levels: Open Meets are Level 3; Yorkshires and Regionals are Level 2 (Short Course) or Level 1 (Long Course).
